I see you you staring back at me

In the mirror

Alone

Eyes of blue

flecks of  fear

Cover your ears

you don’t want to hear

I see you

through the years

Looking back at me

Wild on your own

Escaping one hell

For another

and another

Searching

Hoping to find

What you can’t define

Lost in words

A safe place to be

Just to BE

No escaping reality

I am always with me

I see you there

in the mirror

Book Reviews-Tattooist of Auschwitz and Daisy Jones and the Six

I am not a professional book reviewer but I am an avid reader who loves to talk about books and will share my personal takeaways, thoughts and bookish ideas.

I would love for you to add your comments, book suggestions, and thoughts as well. Did you read a book you think is must read? I would love to hear about it. Ideas for recipes, outings, online excursions, please share!

I will be adding menus, recipes, music, and travel ideas that are based on book’s I finish  as a fun way to connect, learn and explore. Again please share your ideas as well. I would love to connect with other bookish people here.

So without further delay here are my two recently completed books.

1.The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

I loved the idea concept for this time period in history because I have not seen this particular scenario written about before. So initially I was very invested in the story but less than half way through it disappoint set in.  Had I not paid full price for a new copy I would have closed the book at that point.

Pros: Unique view of a time period that was fresh and like no other.

Cons: The language and character responses seemed out of time and context. Historically felt flawed me. Character development was not done in a way that kept me interested I felt they were underdeveloped. There could have been more emotional depth but this felt flat without dimension.

Foodie Suggestion: Cabbage, Potato, and Sausage Soup in the Crockpot/Instant

Reading Suggestion: Night and Dawn by Elie Wiesel

2. Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins

Sex, drugs and Rock and Roll and the 70’s. I will admit I loved the 70’s a little too much. But I learned after the first 20 or so pages that the interview style for me does not work in a full length book. The story would have felt more satisfying as a reader had it been a fully developed traditional book style. And to be honest the story was a little underwhelming but that could have been because of the interviewing style. I would recommend it if the style works for you and you want to just get lost in the 70’s rock vibe for a while.

Pros: I enjoyed the authors writing so I will be looking for other books by her. Historically an awesome time for music and a window into the world of the characters who lived it. I think the characters were very well developed.

Cons: The interview style works in a magazine but not in a full length book for me.

Foodie Suggestion: Grilled Burgers with Onions and something cold to drink..any way you like it.

Music: Listen to Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones, Foghat, I could go on…

Explore: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on line at http://www.rockhall.com

These are just my own personal thoughts…about what I am reading and liking or not liking so much.

I am thankful –

thankful I survived

the torture and the lies

When I look into their eyes

I am thankful-

the scars across my soul

mark all the times I let go-

to grab a hold of

Forgiveness

the balm of Gilead soothes my mind

in the night

I am thankful

looking from here to there

across time

shivers crawl across my skin

memories close in

pull me under

no longer can they hold me down

long enough to watch me drown

I am thankful

day and night

for holy intervention on a drug filled night

screams no one can hear

lungs on fire

tears unleased

Here I am

All these years later

thankful

in the valley of the shadow of death

streams flow

flowers bloom

and I am thankful.

Domain Is Mine Again

After two years of trying to get my personal iolareneau.com domain back — I finally was able to today. And I hope I will now be able to create the site I have been wanting to have where all the eclectic pieces come together so I can share my randomness with the world. (lol)

This will be a place where you can read what I write, check out my book reviews, enjoy random wanderings, and buy cool stuff I find along the way.

In the meantime while I work on the general store.. You can visit my eBay store at itsaflippinthing and poshmark at itsaflipinthing (only one p) .. Life is a flippin’ thing … and you have to be able to flip the switch on expectations, lifestyle, emotions otherwise you will get drowned in the drama.

Hello Friends !!

I had to start a new blog because my original blog expired and I was working so much I really did not have the time or energy to keep it up.

But here I am back again with a new blog and wanted to let everyone know that Mattie’s Legacy is now available in ebook through   all of these online vendors.

I am writing again now that I have started a new job and hope to finish projects that have been set aside for far too long.

Thank you to everyone who has read Mattie’s Legacy and for all your wonderful reviews.
